Animated Short Film

Red, Torn and Mended, by Hungarian-Canadian artist Ildiko Nova, is a graphic memoir recounting her childhood in Soviet-controlled Hungary and her journey toward freedom and identity. Through simple yet powerful illustrations, the work reflects on censorship, repression, and the lasting impact of political upheaval. In partnership with Out of Our Heads, her memoir is currently being adapted into an animated short film for submission to film festivals and human rights organizations.

Ildiko Nova is a Hungarian-born, Romani and Canadian multidisciplinary visual artist.

Her art is published globally and has earned several awards. The Berlin Holocaust Memorial included her animated short film as a permanent installation. She is outspoken about environmental and minority issues, such as awareness of Roma women's rights. Her beaded jewelry participated in the Craft Museum exhibition in Winnipeg.
